Punk – I chose a band called State Champs for the punk
genre. They are a group of New York natives who started a band in 2010. The
band includes a front man, lead guitarist, rhythm guitarist, bassist, and
drummer. I chose this band because for a couple years the punk world seemed
pretty stagnant with nothing really exciting or new. State Champs entered the
scene and took the genre by storm with their catchy lyrics, amazing
instrumentals, and incredible vocals. Their melodies brought something new to
the table while still remaining true to the punk sound. However, they do fit
towards the punk pop genre, but nevertheless still punk. The technology they
incorporate is usually the different pedals they use for their guitars while
playing live. Those pedals help to modify the sound of the guitars for
different songs. Also, they started to incorporate sounds effects from the
computer in their songs that they would not have been able to make with their
instruments.

Hardcore – Memphis May Fire is a band from Texas that is a
part of the hardcore genre. I will say that their music is more in the
post-hardcore area, but that’s because of their clean vocals. However, they
still stay true to the genre’s intense instrumentals. Gotta love that double
bass drumming. The dirty vocals also give them that hardcore sound. Although
their sound is edgy and rough, their lyrics are meaningful and positive. The
technology they incorporate the sound effects they add in their songs. Even
some of their melodies were created with different applications. They also use
different pedals for their guitars to modify the sound.

Girl Power – I chose the singer/comic book artist/mother/all
around powerful woman, Lights, for this genre. Lights is an electronic pop
singer from Canada who started making music at the age of 16. She makes all of
her own music from the lyrics to the instrumentals. She is the generalist of
the music world with a strong influence for the ladies of the music business. She strives to show that females can be their own heroes. Lights got her big break with her song, Drive My Soul, and started gaining more popularity. The technology
that she uses is basically all the things she uses to create her albums. She
uses her computer to help create her music since most of it is all electronic
based.

Electronic – I chose the DJ, Alan Walker, for the electronic
genre. Alan Walker gained popularity when his song, Faded, began playing on EDM
radio stations. From there, he began playing at huge electronic festivals. The
technology he uses are his music and DJ boards to create and play his music
live. His whole way of making music is dependent on technology.

Goth – So my choice for the goth genre might be a stretch,
but I chose the band My Chemical Romance. I’m basing this primarily based off of
their album, Welcome to the Black Parade.
This album is quite emotional in the best way possible lyrically and
instrumentally. Their style and overall sound fits this genre in my opinion.
Their music gives a darker tone and their overall aesthetic fits the goth look.
The technology used would probably be like what most band’s guitarists use,
which are pedals.
