21st Century technology

It’s a music. It’s a phone. It’s an iPhone.
A 21st century piece of technology that I really admire is my iPhone. Not only is it a phone, it is way to access different platforms of social media, a camera, an mp3 player, a calculator, and so on. This little device that can do so much, and fit in the back pocket of my jeans. I believe the iPhone was created to have a little computer that could fit in the palm of your hand.
Now a pretty big influence, that is still relevant today, are computers. They first started off as huge, immobile pieces of technology. There was no moving that around as freely as you wanted. As time went on though, computers became smaller, lighter, and thinner. Soon the laptop came out people who needed to work on the go. In the beginning the laptops were still pretty bulky and heavy to carry around. Now we have laptops as light as notebooks. They are so much easier carrying around to classes or traveling on airplanes. However, it’s hard to find WIFI everywhere you go, especially free WIFI. Also, it’s quite inconvenient to just pull out a laptop out when you’re bored on the bus, or just trying to get out of an awkward situation. Thus, the smart phones became more computer like.
Another influence would be cameras. Even though the Iphone has a good camera, it doesn’t compare to more high quality cameras that professional photographers use, but the convenience of having a camera at your fingertips is pretty convenient. Some people can even make some pictures look pretty close to professional.  The phone can even provide applications that help the user edit photos and videos. This makes it easier to be a photographer on the go.
This might be a stretch, but I also believe a calculator helped influence the iPhone. Hear me out, the really good calculators can do more than just basic arithmetic. Just like the iPhone is so much more than just a device someone would use to make a phone call on or send a text message. Smart calculators can formulate graphs and figure out equations. iPhone can send out emails to looking up recipes for a specific dish to posting the picture of the dish on Instagram.
An obvious thing that inspired the iPhone was the mp3 player. Of course, there was more than one device to help play music, such as the CD player, record player, Walkman, cassette player, and then the iPod. These devices allowed people to listen to music wherever they were at any time. However, most of the devices required people to carry around their albums in the form of CD’s or cassette tapes. In later development, music became digitized and were made able to be downloaded. This is where the iPod came in and was able to store hundreds of songs on to one small, mobile device. What could improve such useful technology? Add a phone to it. Thus, came the beautiful creation of the iPhone. Where not only can someone listen to music anywhere their heart desires, they can even buy and download music anywhere they get WIFI or a phone signal.  People can even download applications like Spotify and Pandora where they have even more access to music. Even if people still buy physical CD’s, they can download the music and put it on the iPhone. This piece of technology has greatly opened up the music world for people.
The iPhone is one of the most popular things to come to mind when thinking of a piece of technology, but with all that it can do I can see why. It helps people in so many ways, and is light, mobile, and fits in the palm of your hand. It continues to grow and improve as time progresses, so let’s see what more it can do.
